Look for less: Celebrity inspired style 2

Hi lovely readers,So let us continue from where we left. Here's presenting another celeb look for less.
This time its a beauty from down under that inspired me...or let's just say that it was a really simple look to recreate (and I did possess the required pieces!!)

A windy afternoon, an Italian lunch and a hot cappuccino set the scene for this productive photo shoot. After going through the post production I was really satisfied with the outcome but on the other hand I struggled with a writer's block!

So you might have to make do with a picture heavy post this time round :-)

Black tee and plaid trench (also seen here)- SES fashion, Jeans- Esprit, Black slouch bag- Portmans (on sale), Flats- via Shoe box (also seen here), Sunglasses- Ralph Lauren

The inspiration- Super model Miranda Kerr:-)

The items shown here are indicative only but the amount I spent on each is real!

And do I need to add that the perfect cappuccino was certainly the hi- light of this afternoon!!

I would like to hear your comments not just on this inspired post but on an inspiring cuppa you've had recently too...

Look for less: Celebrity Inspired Style 1

Ola readers! The week's coming to a close and I tend to love Thursday evenings coz there's only one working week day left and late night shopping is on here in Sydney! Its a pleasant change to head out to the shops late in the evening and just spend time browsing followed by a hot, take away dinner!
The creative juices are definitely flowing after this session!!

So here's a perfect example of my creative Thursday output- a celebrity inspired outfit post! Who doesn't love a 'look for less' idea, especially if its celebrity inspired. Bollywood is such an inseparable part of Indian culture, which includes Bollywood outfits and make up of course!

Take a look at this inspired outfit-

Striped dress- Paper Scissors, Scarf and belt- Markets, Pink loafers- Rubi shoes, Longchamp inspired bag- Markets

Katrina's Michael Kors dress is certainly a chic, classic piece but sometimes recreating a celebrity 'look for less' is easier than you think!

These hot pink loafers were a steal!

Items shown here are indicative only but the amount spent on each item is real!

Do tell me what you think of this first 'look for less' post.and share your celebrity inspiration thoughts....

My Style 2: Mother's Day in the city

My lovely readers..I hope you are all enjoying the weekend. It is going to be an extra special Sunday tomorrow with Mother's Day celebrations planned and a (well hidden) surprise gift *wink, wink*.
Since the weather's predicted to be perfectly lovely, we plan to head to the city for a cafe brunch and enjoy the spectacular harbor views!

What to wear? Now that is a question I love to answer always! And here's a set that I put together to style for this occasion-

Black trench coat- Keeps me  warm in the windy harbor, stylishly of course!
Plum long sleeved top- My plum obsession continues...
Polka Dot straight pants- I'm loving these absolutely trendy pants that I scored on sale recently
Beige scarf- Soft, light and a good contrast to the plum top
Pink belt- A great accessory to tie down this look together
Rose gold watch- A delicate key accessory for a polished look
Suede ankle boots- On my wishlist!! Don't think my chocolate brown ones can do justice to this look
Black clutch- This 'Guess' one is sophisticated yet edgy with the stud detailing
Black dangling earrings- Completing the look with this pair and I'm ready to go!

Tell me how you plan to celebrate Mother's Day or enjoy your Sunday?

My style 1: The office lunch

Hello dear readers..
On Monday I had to attend an office team lunch and since I work part time and Monday wasn't my usual work day, I was quite happy to dress in a smart casual outfit. I can easily say that it is my uniform of sorts! I have been on the look out for the perfect pair of straight cut indigo jeans and not long ago I found it at the Esprit outlet for just $20!!

So here's how I styled it that afternoon-

1. Black pullover- How can a winter wardrobe not have one?
2. Indigo jeans- My latest find that 'fits the bill' for a smart casual uniform
3. Plum pashmina scarf- Let's just say I'm obsessing over all things plum currently!
4. Tan tote- While mine is close to this one, I wouldn't mind having this exact same tote!
5. Leopard ballet flats- I'm finding them immensely versatile
6. Plum nail color- I found a gorgeous shade that nearly matches my scarf!
7. Leopard cuff- A good piece that compliments the plum color and matches the flats of course
8. Mac Powder- I think I'll never find a substitute!!
9. Sunglasses- The wayfarer is such a trendy one to possess

The team lunch was really pleasant. The weather and the venue couldn't have been better! I think I will be thinking of the excellent food, sunny veranda seating, yatches bobbing on the water and my lovely tram ride into the city, for a long time:-)

And if you want to catch a glimpse of the outfit and details of the day check it out on Instagram.....

Double Styling: 2

Hello readers. So here's part two of the first twin series post. as promised. I like this post or rather the situation and the two looks featured here. First because it was a real situation and second because it was a case of spontaneous styling really!
It was one of those days when nothing is really planned. We headed off to the factory outlets to check out the mid season deals. I didn't really think beyond a jeans n tee and comfy shoes!
If you know me you probably know how I love adding some color even to the simplest outfit. So I threw in some bright jewelry into the jeans n tee mix. I never miss a chance to wear my hot pink loafers when I need to wear flats, so that completed the look.

T-shirt- Esprit, Cropped jeans- American Eagle, Striped cardigan- SES Fashion
Colorful bracelet and earrings- Markets, Cross body bag- Oroton

It was a successful day of shopping (it usually is!) and we came home satisfied but with tired legs. So it came as a surprise when an unexpected pizza night plan popped up! At first I was hesitant but you've got to surrender when the kids jump up and down on hearing 'pizza'!!
It was time to bring out yet another color pop with this lime yellow evening jacket which I decided to wear over the same jeans n tee. Added the appropriate bag and shoes and I was set for the evening.

T-shirt- Esprit, Cropped jeans- American Eagle, Evening jacket- SES Fashion
Bag- Hidesign, Floral wedges- Pavers England (India), Faux leather bracelet- Oriflame (India)

And now the analysis-

Some tips to make it work-
- Yellow and hot pink compliment shades of blue quite well
- Its good to match a couple of pieces even if its just a casual look
- A leather cross body bag is convenient and stylish when you are out and about

Some tips to make it work-
- Using structured pieces in the same color scheme creates the appropriate evening look
- I still matched a few pieces (namely headband and jacket; bag and wedge heels)
- A piece I added at the last minute was a faux leather bracelet (seen in the closer pic) for instant finesse
I would like to thank you readers for liking part 1 of this series, do tell me what you think of this one!

Double styling: 1

The month of May is here and this month always gets me motivated. Why?.. Well, because I started my blog in this month two years ago! I can't believe how time has flown by since then. There have been peaks and troughs in my blogging life and also some time off. I'd like to call it 'maternity leave':-)
So between juggling kids, work and social life, I'm happy that I am managing to spend some time on my pet subjects- writing, styling and creating!

Okay, enough said there!

Let me come straight to the subject of this post. This idea has been on my mind for sometime. While it may not be path breaking or anything, I was happy to finally document it.

The idea was to create two distinct looks (not necessarily day to night ones) with the one basic outfit by playing with accessories, outer wear and shoes. It was fun to switch the pieces, keeping the same clothes. I was amazed how this treatment resulted in such separate looks.

Wear to the office- OUTFIT #1

Slouchy pink top and striped skirt - SES Fashion, Boyfriend blazer- borrowed from hubby, Black beaded necklace- Markets,  Structured leather bag- Hidesign, Suede peep toes- Nine West (also seen here)

Wear to a 'Styling session' - OUTFIT #2

Multicolored beaded necklace- Gift from Mum (India), White bangle- Diva, Mint envelope clutch- Portmans, White slip on wedge sandals- Pavers England (India)

And the now analysis-

Here's why it works-
1. 'Black' and the blazer add the right formal tone, although the 'boyfriend blazer' is not strictly formal
2. The 'crocodile texture and color of the Structured bag break away from the grey and black and compliment the pink top
3. Suede = class and the shoes add just the right amount of it to this outfit

Here's why it works-
1. 'White' gives this outfit a light trendy look
2. The mint envelope clutch is perfect for carrying an Ipad, which is a must for styling sessions
3. The multicolored beaded necklace is a key piece as it carries the outfit to a new level. I find this is a great piece for demonstrating the importance of accessories!

So that explains why this post is titled 'Double Styling' ..but wait there's more. This is part one of the twin series post! This whole month I'm going to bring you twin posts to celebrate 2 years of 'Klassy Style Files', so stay tuned.

I will especially look forward to your feedback this month. Thank you my lovely readers!

For a Reader

Ola readers. Yes! It's time to suggest yet another styling idea and put together another outfit. This time the occasion is not the usual outing, soiree or brunch. It is far more serious than that; well, only if you think it has to be serious business..okay let me take the guess work out of this...the occasion is a job interview!

The points to keep in mind this time were-

  1. The reader was absolutely certain about not wanting to wear the typical skirt or pant suit
  2. The outfit had to be appropriate for the time of the year here in Sydney
  3. The look had to be centered around a lovely blue tweed skirt she owned

Take a look at the ensemble I created:

1. Black blouse- An elegant pussy bow blouse is both formal and stylish
2. Blue tweed skirt- A beautiful piece for autumn/ winter, the unusual bit is that its not grey or black!
3. Classic trench- What can be more stylish, elegant, sophisticated..I mean seriously!!
4. Watch- Something more than a piece that tells just the time, this Longines watch is a winner!
5. Black pumps- I'd say pick suede or classic leather over patent ones to keep it serious:-)
6. Glasses- Its geek glasses that make a statement these days, so go for it if you wear glasses
7. Accessories- Keep it minimalist, just a hint of color and a bit of dangle, not much!
8. Perfume- Make sure its not overpowering the last thing you want is the interviewer disliking it!
9. Stockings- Use opaque black ones, avoid sheer and definitely patterned or fishnets!!
10. Bag- An important piece is a smart bag, keep it simple structured and roomy to fit all your documents, Ipad , make up and other bits n pieces
What would you wear to a job interview, will love to hear your ideas!
